Beaten, brusied, and hung on a cross…
Jesus came, died for our sins, and rose again claiming that he would one day return…
Around 30 A.D. there was a new group of people from Israel, they proclaimed that a man was born from a virgin, he lived a sinless life, and died for everyone’s sin…they said he rose again three days later and that they even talked to him for several days until he returned to heaven claiming that one day he would come back to finally make things right…And the only thing he asks them to do, just before he leaves, is to tell his story to the world….
I think, as Christians, we all know who this man was..We also know that 11 of these people that proclaimed this were the very people who walked along side him every day….
I was born and raised a Christian, but I haven’t looked into my faith in my entire life more than this last year… I’m not an expert in Christianity, and I probably never will be…but I do know that God is…
In the 16 years I have lived so far, there is one thing that I am positive about, and that is that a relationship with God is more important than anything else. The apostles are so great, because they walked along side God himself in human form. Moses in the Old Testament was in so much communication with God that he glowed; in fact the people with Moses had to cover him with clothes because the glowing was so intense. What funny to me is that later when Jesus is found praying in the New Testament, He comes down from the mount glowing too, the difference is that His clothes are glowing. John the apostle was ‘in tune’ with God so much that he never died (after several murder attempts- including poisonous snakes) until he died of old age. There are so much more evidence and stories of people’s relationship with God found in the bible (look them up)…
“That’s great that they had amazing encounters with God but this is 2010, that happened during the ‘biblical times’….” That’s true, that did happen during biblical times..I also must say that we live in the same world as the apostles did… for some reason I find that people think that the bible is a story book, but heaven is real. Or that the bible was real, but that little spec of time between Revelations and the end of time didn’t have God’s love. But that’s not true at all..
Another thing or occurrence I have discovered is this ‘back burner’ theory. Think about this very seriously. How many of you hit those times of sadness where you find God isn’t doing anything? (how many of you blame this sadness on God?) < –look up the story of Job…
-How many of you get those times where God is there and you can feel his presence, but after that weekend or lets say month (if you’ve really been hit by God’s power) that feeling of joy goes away, and then you’re back into normality…
This happens to everyone (and even in acts it shows this repeated filling of the holy spirit with the apostles) but the problem is how many of you after sinking into this normality go right back to those every day actions, how many of you find out that you’re really not getting anything out of this?
-how ‘bout those of you who are Christians. How many of you go to church, and have that time of spiritual highs, but afterwards you hit that time of dullness?
Your solution to all of this is a good relationship with God…
How many of you are reading the bible everyday? How many of you go to church on a regular basis? How many of you pray to God? How many of you are participating in extra stuff like small groups, or serving the community? How many of you praise God for the times when there wasn’t a problem rather than curse and swear when there is? How many of you give tithes (let alone offering)
->Try these; I suggest all of them…
The Biggest part or key role in keeping a good relationship with God is to never let up. Change doesn’t happen in one day or one week, it happens slowly and overtime. The last question I have to ask is how many of you are using excuses not to do these?
-God’s love works around these issues. If you don’t like the speaker, try to listen to what they’re saying rather than how they annunciate. If you’re too tired, come on a Saturday night, or to the late service at your church. If you’re not accepted try a new church out, there are literally millions of different churches out there. If the coffee offered there is funny tasting, try bringing your own (or like me don’t drink any)
In conclusion, if you’re reading this and realize that your relationship with God isn’t that good, or you have never experienced his amazing love, find a Christian “bud” or walk into a church for once, and ask them to pray for you. Don’t worry, Christians don’t bite…(well I hope not anyway =P)
