Time. It’s more valuable than a lot of people act like.
We waste it every day, although a lot of us just call it ‘relaxing’. TV, texting, movies…. These are all great things, and if they help us get things done, or relax, that’s great, but it kills your time without anything to gain. There are other ways to relax.
I’m not saying that you should never do any of these. That would be hypocritical. I just think that we should cut back. Maybe just shorten it to one hour a day of TV. Or just one movie a day, and maybe just take some breaks from texting. I also find it helpful to have a day without any screens every once in a while. That way, you can get work or homework done easier.
Then, when you’re done, find something you like to do, that’s not so technology based. Go play outside, or learn an instrument or something like that. At least pick three things like that, and your time will be used for much more productive things.
My three things are writing music, playing guitar, and going outside. What are yours?
Guest submission by my daughter, Patience Ward. Several weeks ago she sent me an essay titled “Breaking Barriers” and I posted it. The response was so good I asked her if she would be interested in submitting articles on a regular basis. She took me up on my offer. This is her latest submission. – TW
